Happy Birthday Buffyverse!

I didn't start watching until 1999 and I would have only been 13... weird. I couldn't let the day pass without doing something, so I'm sharing 10 BtVS songs and my top 5 episodes - with pictures and comments.

Wearing Me Down ~ Dashboard Prophets (The Harvest)

Fate ~ Four Star Mary (Inca Mummy Girl)

Full of Grace ~ Sarah McLachlan (Becoming Part 2)

Tales of Brave Ulysses ~ Cream (Band Candy and Forever)

Wild Horses ~ The Sundays (The Prom)

I Can’t Take My Eyes Off You ~ Melanie Doane (Family)

Goodbye to You ~ Michelle Branch (Tabular Rasa)

Out of This World ~ Bush (Dead Things)

Blue ~ Angie Hart (Conversations with Dead People)

Pavlov’s Bell ~ Aimee Mann (Sleeper)

My Top Five Episodes (with pictures.)
1. Restless: You think you know. What's to come. What you are. You haven't even begun.
A great look at the four core characters. And full of foreshadowy goodness.

2. Once More, With Feeling: The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.
This could have gone incredibly wrong but since it's 2 on my list, I think you know what I think.

3. Fool for Love: Lesson the first: A Slayer must always reach for her weapon. I've already got mine.
Spike. Effulgent. Chaos demon - lol.The ending is really pretty. (I love the crossover of this on Angel.)

4. Innocence:  To kill this girl... you have to love her.
Emotional resonance and rocket launches! This is why I love this show.

5. The Gift:  She's a hero, you see. She's not like us.
100th episode, I always cry when I watch this. I'm glad the show didn't finish here, but if it had, it would have been a great ending.

I really did grow up with this show and I still love it. It made me want to be a writer and I'd like to think it saved me a little during the hardest times in my life.

(To my none BtVS f-list - I got my  ticket for Breakout today. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you there.)

Great post. Buffy was really a seminal show for me. I still measure everything against Joss Whedon.

It's one of those show that stays with you.

I'm certain there will never be another show that I'll get as much from. I've never cared about characters in the same way on other shows.

Awesome post. And I started watching it around the same time you did. Crazy to think of how young we were.

Glad you liked the post. Wonder where the fandom will be in another ten years time. We need some new content. The comic might fill some of the void but I've never been much of a comic person.

I'm having a nastolgic day *sigh* - not for my life back then... but I miss Joss Whedon work on TV.

Boy i LOVED Buffy back in the day. I still do really. I'm always in constant deliberation as to whether or not to purchase the complete 7 seasons on DVD from amazon. I think it'd be a wise long term investment but cant seem to part with the cash!

After hearing Four Star Mary i think i bought there albumn! I'll have to dig it out.

I just bought extra userpic space so i'll have to hunt for some buffy icons now!

I write BtVS fanfiction and drabbles, which keeps me active with the fandom still.

Someone on my f-list put up a link to some Buffy icons here: http://community.livejournal.com/crinkly_things/48948.html

Great list! I would add "The Body". However, that episode has the same problem the movie "Schindler's List" does: It's brilliant, but very painful to watch.

"The Body" hurts me, I cry all the way through it. It's really well written and feels like the most realistic death on TV that I've seen - which is saying something for a show with vampires in it. It's the best episode but also the most difficult to watch.

As a dispatcher, I can tell you that the way that 911 call went was also very realistic ... the only difference is that a lot more than just two rescuers would have been rushing through the door. There'd have been at least two paramedics and a couple of police officers, and considering the way Buffy cut the call off at least one police officer would have shown up, too.

But it's understandable that they wouldn't have wanted all those extra people busting in, it would have interfered with the storytelling. Just the same, I was really impressed at the 911 call, and I'm sure they consulted someone on how that would have progressed.

Lovely post. Brings back so many memories...*nostalgic sigh*

I was 13 as well when I started watching the show. I watched the first 2 seasons, and then didn't watch the show for a few years because I didn't have cable. But once I did, I got back into it, and I'm so glad I did. :)

Great choice of episodes, btw. Those are pretty much my favorite as well, along with a few more, such as Tabula Rasa and Lover's Walk. Joss needs to get back on tv, asap. :D

We need Joss back on TV. He's doing the Buffy season 8 comic but I've never been that into comics. I'm now nostalgic for Buffy, Angel and Firefly. I like Tabular Rasa and Lover's Walk too - I love all the episodes, except that one *shakes fist at...episode of choice.*

Yeah, I heard about the comics (have also read a couple of reviews, spoilers and recaps), but I've never been into comics either. I'd much rather have him back on TV. *nods* I watched the episode of The Office which he directed, which was pretty appropriate since there were vampires involved, heh. I was disappointed when I learned that he was no longer directing Wonder Woman.

Buffy will always be my favorite, with Angel a close second. I need to catch up on Firefly though - I've watched about 5-6 episodes a long time ago, and have yet to get around to watching the rest (including the movie)...

heh, yeah, as much as I love Buffy, there were definitely a few episodes that I could have done without. I think the one I hated the most was Doublemeat Palace...eww.

Oh, and I totally forgot to say the first time around - yay for getting your ticket to Breakout! :)

I had a tough time as a teenage and this show helped me through it. It also made me want to be a writer and I'm just so greatful for that.

I think you pretty much listed my top episodes too! I love the crazy surrealness in "Restless" (and of course, that moment with Giles and Spike on the swings) and the rest of them are pretty much for the same reasons as you listed.
It's weird, my friend just burned his dvds for me like a week or so ago and I've totally gotten back into it again, and now all over my f-list its mad Buffy love time. The weird thing is that it turns out that pretty much everyone on my f-list has been a Buffy fanatic at least at one point.

I love Giles and Spike on the swings! I write drabbles and fics, which keeps me involved with the fandom. I've liked other shows but not like this one. There's just something special about it, it made me into a writer and just changed the way I think about things.
